Serra Tansel has used everyday children's pens to fill a sheet of paper with dots. In the order the 30 assorted colour fibre pens are packaged she has cycled through the pens to place one dot per pen, each dot the size of the pen nib, in rows from left to right until a sheet of A4 is full.
Tansel is interested in mass-market commodities and value and the ensuing interplay between authenticity and the fake. The title Great, Creative Fun, Bright, Assorted Colours, Safe & Non-Toxic is taken from the packaging. The pens are more commonly used for colouring-in books of hyper detailed patterns and doodles in a creative activity promoted for its de-stressing and calming qualities. With the hours it has taken to fill the sheet Tansel's work acknowledges this pastime.
Serra Tansel has published an artist's colouring book titled Sera Tansel Family Album Colouring Book. It was exhibited in Sera Tansel Unlimited exhibition at noshowspace in 2015.
