Sadotti has been working in the East End of London since 1990, having studied and lived in New York and Houston Texas. His work has always revolved around events and ephemeral material, he is interested in unexpected and unplanned occurrences and the resulting offshoots that are often surprising and insightful. He explores and uses the potential archive or set of memories, interests and experiences within each of us.
He has exhibited at PS 1 MoMA New York, Tate Modern, the ICA London, the Whitechapel London and Kunsthalle Vienna. Previous projects include ‘One Two’ at City Racing Gallery London where he presented a rock band’s instruments that viewers were invited to use; ‘In It’ At The University of Washinton Gallery, USA where 16 people emulated an instrumental musical track using their voices only. ‘Went to America didn’t say a word’ shown at Space 1999, curated by Mathew Higgs, he recorded his silence on audio tape whilst in New York for 2 days.
His current practice extends the above mentioned experiments by examining live performance and the grey areas between art events and theatre to achieve a position that can have a real impact on daily life.
In 1996 he made ‘Be Me’ which involved the co-operation of 31 others who agreed to attempt to take on his personality: to be Giorgio Sadotti for a day.
